We are a Christian Church
We believe in one God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) who has revealed himself supremely through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. To know God the Father, we must put our trust in his Son and his death on a cross for our sins. We believe that Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and one day will return again.
We are an Evangelical Church
We believe that the Bible is God’s written word which speaks clearly and with relevance to our life and modern world. The Bible is the definitive guide for us in all matters of faith and conduct. We seek to apply the Word of God to every aspect of our lives. In order to do this we place a high value on preaching, teaching and studying God’s word together.
We are a Missionary Church
Because we believe that Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life” and that no-one can come to the Father except through him, we place a high value on sharing our faith both in Penarth and throughout the rest of the world. Our desire is to see people come to know Jesus and put their trust and faith in him.
We are a Contemporary Church
We try and do everything in ways which communicate to our contemporary culture. Because of this we use a modern version of the Bible in our services and make use of modern music styles as well as traditional hymns in our worship. Most of our worship is led by a worship group with guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. We do not use hymn books, but use projectors and T.V. screens to display the words for our worship.
We are a Welcoming Church
Although Tabernacle is a Baptist Church, we have members from many different backgrounds and traditions. Some people have been members of a church all of their lives, whilst others have become believers in recent years. The Church has member who have always been Baptist believers, whilst others have joined us from a variety of backgrounds including Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Brethren, Pentecostal, Welsh Chapel, Salvation Army and independent churches. Everyone is welcome!
We are a Family Church
Everybody, from the youngest to the oldest are welcome we delight in our diversity. During most services children and young people join us for the beginning of the service and then go to their own groups in our purpose built teaching rooms and classrooms. When there is a fifth Sunday of the month the morning service is very different from other weeks. On this Sunday the service is a communion designed primarily for children, but adults are welcome to join in! The style of worship, teaching and music is designed to appeal to children and young people, so be warned… you may never have experienced worship quite like this before!
We are a Baptist Church
We are members of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the South Wales Baptist Association. We subscribe to the Baptist Union Declaration of Principle: The Basis of the Baptist Union is:
- 1. That our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.
- 2. That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who ‘died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried, and rose again the third day’.
- 3. That it is the duty of every disciple to bear personal witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.
